Frequently asked questions

Honest answers to the questions authors ask before they get in touch. If yours is not here, ask us directly.

Can you help if I only have a book idea?

Yes. Many authors come to us before a word has been written. A discovery consultation looks at the idea, the audience and the shape of the book, and from there we can develop an outline, a writing plan or a full ghostwriting engagement.

Can you work with an unfinished manuscript?

Yes. Partial drafts, abandoned chapters and messy first attempts are common starting points. We assess what exists, agree a structure and either complete the manuscript with you or edit what you finish.

Do you provide ghostwriting?

Yes. Ghostwriting is available for fiction, non-fiction, memoir, biography, business and children's books, and is delivered confidentially with your name on the cover.

Will my book still sound like me?

That is the point of the process. Ghostwriting and editing are built around your material, your voice and your decisions. You review every draft, and nothing is finalised without your approval.

How does ghostwriting work?

A ghostwriter writes your book with you from interviews, notes, voice recordings and existing material. You approve the outline and each batch of chapters, and the finished manuscript is yours.

Do I retain ownership of my book?

Yes. You own the copyright in your manuscript and the finished book. We provide services; we do not acquire rights, royalties or a share of your sales. The specifics are set out in writing before any project begins.

Can you help with editing?

Yes. Developmental, structural, line and copy editing, manuscript assessment, rewriting and proofreading are all available, individually or in sequence.

What is the difference between editing and proofreading?

Editing improves the writing: structure, clarity, flow and correctness. Proofreading is the final check for errors on a finished manuscript or typeset pages. One does not replace the other.

Can you design my book cover?

Yes. Cover design includes genre research, concepts, front, spine and back for print, and ebook covers sized for every platform.

Can you format my book for print and ebook?

Yes. Print-ready PDFs for paperback and hardcover, and reflowable EPUB and Kindle files, all built to platform specification.

Can you help me publish on Amazon KDP?

Yes. We prepare print and ebook files to platform specifications, write metadata and descriptions, and guide you through the account and listing setup on Amazon KDP, Kindle, IngramSpark and other platforms, so the book is published under your name and your control.

Can you help with ISBNs?

Yes, with guidance and assistance. We are not an ISBN issuing authority; in Australia ISBNs are issued by Thorpe-Bowker. We explain what you need, help you obtain ISBNs and make sure each format is assigned correctly.

Can you publish paperback and hardcover books?

Yes. Paperback, hardcover and ebook editions can all be prepared and set up, subject to the formats each platform supports.

Can you help with children's books?

Yes. Story development, writing, illustration, layout, formatting and publishing preparation for picture books, rhymes and early readers.

Can you help with memoirs?

Yes. Memoir and life story writing, editing and publishing, handled with confidentiality and care for sensitive material.

How much does book publishing cost?

It depends on word count, genre, the condition of the manuscript, research needs, design and illustration requirements, deadline and how much of the process you want handled. Rather than publish prices that would not apply to your book, we provide a written quote after a short consultation.

How long does the process take?

A proofread can take a couple of weeks; a ghostwritten book with editing, design and publishing setup typically runs across several months. Every quote comes with a realistic timeline.

Do you work with authors outside major Australian cities?

Yes. The service is delivered remotely, so authors in regional and remote Australia receive exactly the same process as authors in Sydney or Melbourne.

Can I purchase only one service?

Yes. Every service is available on its own. Some authors need a proofread and nothing else; others want the whole journey. We scope only what your book needs.

Can you help market my book?

Yes. Author branding, listing optimisation, author websites, social media, email, advertising, launch campaigns and PR content are all available, planned around realistic goals.

Do you guarantee book sales?

No, and no legitimate service provider should guarantee a specific number of sales. Marketing can improve visibility and reach relevant readers, but commercial results depend on many factors outside anyone's control. We plan honestly and report clearly.
