Traditional publishing
A publisher acquires rights to your book, pays an advance and royalties, and controls production, pricing and distribution. Acceptance is competitive and timelines are long.
Publishing is a sequence of technical and practical steps. We guide you through each one, so your book is published professionally, under your name and in your control.
Twelve steps, most of which you can take with us or on your own. We tell you which is which.
We read the manuscript and tell you honestly what it needs before publication.
The appropriate level of editing, scoped to the assessment.
A cover designed for the genre and the platform, in every format you will sell.
Print-ready and ebook files to platform specification.
Title, subtitle, description, categories, keywords and author details written to work for discoverability.
Help obtaining ISBNs through the appropriate agency and assigning them correctly to each format.
Accounts and listings created in your name on Amazon KDP, IngramSpark and other platforms you choose.
A printed proof reviewed before the book is released.
You sign off on the files, the listing and the pricing.
The book goes live with launch assets prepared in advance.
Print-on-demand and ebook distribution configured for Australia and international markets.
Optional ongoing support to build visibility and an author platform.
Three different things. It matters which one you are choosing.
A publisher acquires rights to your book, pays an advance and royalties, and controls production, pricing and distribution. Acceptance is competitive and timelines are long.
You publish the book yourself, keep all rights and all net income, and take responsibility for production, quality and marketing.
You self-publish, and we do the professional work with you: editing, design, formatting, metadata, ISBN guidance and platform setup. You remain the publisher and the rights holder.
Australian Book Publishing is not a traditional publisher. We do not acquire rights, we do not take a percentage of your royalties and we do not own your accounts. Platform accounts are created in your name with your payment details, so income from your book is paid directly to you by the platform, at the rates the platform publishes.
Where you would prefer to publish under your own imprint, we help you set it up and guide you through obtaining ISBNs in that name.
Platform names are the property of their respective owners. We prepare files and guide setup to each platform's published requirements; we are not affiliated with or endorsed by any of them.
Yes, with guidance and assistance. Australian Book Publishing is not an ISBN issuing authority. In Australia, ISBNs are issued by Thorpe-Bowker, the national ISBN agency; we explain what you need, help you obtain them and make sure each format is assigned correctly. Some platforms also offer free ISBNs with conditions, which we will explain.
Yes. We prepare and set up paperback, hardcover (case laminate and, where the platform supports it, dust jacket) and ebook editions.
Print-on-demand distribution through IngramSpark makes a book orderable by bookshops and libraries in Australia and internationally. Being stocked on shelves is a separate matter that depends on the retailer; we can advise on what is realistic.
No. The service is designed for Australian authors and the Australian market, but it is delivered remotely and works for authors anywhere.
